Bill Ayers began working in landscape construction during high school summer breaks and continued in the industry after graduation, moving up in responsibility at different companies. After taking a job with a homebuilder managing land development and offsite construction, Ayers decided to pursue his contractor's license and return to his first love landscape construction. At the end of 1990, he opened East Bay Construction in a two-desk office and hired his first four employees. After working in the field from dawn to dusk each day, Ayers came back to the office to write paychecks, send out invoices, and handle other administrative tasks.
As the company grew and new employees joined, Ayers instilled each with the same dedication, work ethic, and attention to detail he believed in and practiced. The company continued expanding through referrals and repeat business from clients who appreciated East Bay 's commitment and its ability to complete projects on the construction industry's often accelerated schedules. According to Ayers, he was fortunate to surround himself with highly skilled employees whose dedication was then, and is now, second to none.
